The Winds Wins Award For Cleanliness
March 14, 2010 by garypope
On March 8th of this year The Winds was awarded with the coveted Platinum A Award from The Environmental Health Section of the Brunswick County Health Department.
This department is responsible for all manner of health inspections – they inspect our accommodations, restaurant, kitchens, dining area and of course our TikiBar.
When you reach the Platinum level that means that you have received the Golden A Award for five consecutive years. The Golden A Award is received when you have a 95% or above for all inspections.
The owners and management of The Winds thanks our food service and housekeeping staff for their diligence. We are so proud of this ward and the people who won it for The Winds!

Congratulations! Praise those employees, but please do one more thing. REWARD THEM WITH A MONETARY BONUS, VACATION, or something. People are drawn to The Winds because it always is so clean and kept so nice. The grounds are beautiful, the food is great. Your employees work very very hard, and it is usually the housekeepers who are never shown the appreciation they so deserve. I always used to say, one of the hardest jobs and one with the least recognition. I was in Property Management for over 20 years. One time my Property won a huge award and they planned to give me, the manager, and the maintenance supervisor a large monetary reward. I told them I wanted all my employees to receive something. They said it wasn’t set up that way. I told them if it weren’t for my housekeeper and groundsman, it was due to their hard work that the place always had such an aestheic appeal and that’s what drew the customers in. No one wants to live or vacation in a dirty place. Since they refused, I personally took my award and gave part of it to the housekeeper and part of it to the groundsman. The next year, my housekeeper won Maintenance of the Year for the whole company. They guys said she doesn’t do maintenance, but her job fell under the maintenance catergory so she won. The best thing is, she was the best and did deserve it. I know Shirley there and she does work hard to oversee that housekeeping does their job. Randy is excellent with the grounds and the girls who run the restaurant are all great. I know Jodi by name and some of the others by face, but they are wonderful. All of them. I miss Maddie. She was my favorite. And I love Eloise too. I can’t say enough good things about The Winds. I wish I could live there year round. I hope to have my ashes spread there someday. It is my favorite place in the world.
