The Wright Family and The Winds

August 24, 2008 by garypope

The Wright family from High Point, NC came to The Wind’s in 1997 by luck.
This story and the accompanying photos were emailed to us by Travis Wright. We greatly appreciate his allowing us to share the Wright Family’s story:

The Wright family from High Point, NC came to The Wind’s in 1997 by luck. Our mother who became a double amputee because of diabetes, dearly loved the beach and loved to eat fresh seafood, needed a rental property at the beach with handicap accessibility.

Upon searching the internet for properties near Calabash, NC, because of their reputation for seafood, I found the web site for The Winds. Once we arrived and got checked in, we were going to eat and by luck had gotten a parking spot that was perfect for removing our mother’s wheelchair, which she had to ride in, on trips because of her health condition. When we were leaving the parking lot, we asked Keith, one of the maintenance personnel if there was any way we could keep that parking space available for the week. He said go eat; we will have you fix up when you return. Sure enough, when we returned from our meal, there in the parking spot we vacated were two barricades blocking the space from others not needing special arrangements from using it.

When we were ready to return to The Winds the next year, Keith had suggested that we let the front office know, we required the special parking space about one week before we arrived. Again, The Winds staff went 110% to satisfy its customers for when we arrived and saw the space was blocked, we knew it was for us, so we pulled right in. While we were registering two staff people came to the vehicle to make sure we were the Wright family because they knew that we need this one special parking spot..

This was just the beginning of our love affair with The Winds and their staff. The Winds must be one of the few businesses that train their staff in customer service, because every body from housekeeping, maintenance and especially the ladies in the breakfast bar have become our special friends for this one week a year. For you see, we, the Wright family have been coming back every year since 1997, except one year, 2005 when the only reason we didn’t come that year was one of the family members had a heart attack the day before we were going to come to Ocean Isle Beach.

So, to make our yearly trips to The Winds more meaningful have had these tee-shirts printed with our family name on the front and to honor our friends at The Winds, we had their name imprinted on the back. As we stopped along the way, and when we arrived people including The Winds staff enjoyed our shirts. I hoped you have enjoyed our story about how The Winds keeps on impressing us year after year with their attention to detail or any way they can make ours and your stay more enjoyable.

I am a local residence and live here in paradise.
I know the folks at The Winds and this place is a first class operation ran by a first class family.
Come on down and enjoy the area and I bet you will consider moving here full time .
